this is for Lori at Finding Radiance
I love visiting Lori’s blog. She’s funny, sweet, dedicated, has lost an amazing amount of weight, and she has LOTS of pix posted everyday. Her breakfasts make me drool.
Guest starring her gorgeous cat, Pixie, and hubby.
««« My homemade upside down suet feeder made by my friend’s husband*. (I need to wash it out)
It’s crude but it works!
I used to have a big problem with the starlings and squirrels going through a cake of suet in a matter of hours and the poor woodpeckers never had a chance at the feedbag.
Starlings don’t like eating upside down and this thing is too much trouble for the squirrels.
The woodpeckers love it. Problem solved.
*He cut out a square opening in the lid of the container (from the dollar store). He snipped off the sides of a suet feeder & attached one of the sides to the lid with plastic ties. Then he made 4 holes in the bottom of the container to slide wire through for the hanger. He put plastic sleeves over the wire on the inside.
Filling it couldn’t be easier … just pop the lid off the container and slide in a suet cake (still in the container it comes in) and close. Voila!
I’m going to make a couple more this weekend as I not only get woodpeckers but creepers and nuthatches as well. I want everybody to be happy and fed. I love birdwatching in my own backyard.
